Srinagar: In a significant stride towards inclusive development and national integration, the Indian Army’s Vajr Division, under the aegis of Chinar Corps, in collaboration with the Aseem Foundation, has successfully electrified and LPG-enabled Simari — a remote border village in the Karnah Valley of Jammu & Kashmir.

Situated along the Line of Control, with part of the village extending into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Simari holds immense strategic and democratic value as Polling Booth No. 1 of India. Until recently, the village endured the hardships of limited electricity and traditional, inefficient cooking methods. Through this transformative initiative, 53 households have now been equipped with solar microgrids and clean cooking LPG kits, significantly enhancing the standard of living in this frontier settlement.

The project has been dedicated to the memory of Colonel Santosh Mahadik, Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal, who made the supreme sacrifice in service of the Nation. As a mark of tribute, Mrs. Kalinda Mahadik (mother of Col Mahadik), Commander, Tangdhar Brigade, and Mr. Sarang Gosavi, Founder & Managing Director, Aseem Foundation, will jointly inaugurate the solar electrification system in Simari on 14 April 2025.

The inauguration will be attended by local residents, including women, children, and elders, along with civil dignitaries, marking a moment of pride and collective progress.

This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Vibrant Villages Programme and showcases the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication to development in remote and border areas. More than just protectors of the nation, the Indian Army continues to be a catalyst for growth — bringing light, dignity, and opportunity to even the farthest corners of the country.

The Chinar Corps, in close cooperation with Aseem Foundation, remains committed to empowering border communities through rural electrification, clean energy solutions, and inclusive development, exemplifying Nation-building through innovation, participation, and local partnership.
