Srinagar: Police on Friday arrested the husband and mother-in-law of a woman who was allegedly murdered and later burnt in a cowshed in the Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district last year.
The woman, Shabnam Akhtar, was killed by her husband, a laborer by profession, and her mother-in-law on October 4, 2024, a police officer told GNS.
“The husband of the missing woman, Imran Khan, 35, of Halmulla Hapatnad, Aishmuqam, Pahalgam, admitted during questioning that he, with the help of his mother, killed his wife on 04-10-2024 and then burnt her body in the cowshed,” the officer said. The police team visited the crime scene, accompanied by the Duty Magistrate of Ashmuqam, the FSL team, and the accused.
“During the investigation, the team recovered hair, some bones, and the deceased woman’s cell phone. These items were sealed before the Duty Magistrate for further investigation,” the officer added. “A formal case (FIR No. 01/2025) under sections 103(1) BNS and 61(2) BNS has been registered against the accused, Imran Khan, and his mother, Noor Hassan, wife of Mouz-ud-Din Khan.”
Both accused have been formally arrested in connection with the case and sent to jail, the officer confirmed. (GNS)
