Drug peddler booked under PIT-NDPS Act

Srinagar: Police on Monday said they have booked an “infamous” drug peddler in Srinagar under the PIT-NDPS Act and lodged him in Central Jail here.

According to a police spokesperson, Adil Rashid Bhat alias Raj Tanker, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat alias Mama, resident of Usmanabad Bemina, has been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance Act.

Police said he was involved in several cases of drug peddling and in view of his persistent involvement in the illicit sale and distribution of drugs and narcotics, a comprehensive dossier was prepared by police and the warrants for lodging him in jail under PIT-NDPS Act were obtained from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.

Meanwhile, police also arrested a drug peddler in Sopore and recovered contraband substances from his possession.

During patrolling at Yedipora Lorihama, one Bilal Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Rashid Lone of Lorihama Rafiabad was arrested after 80 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus were recovered from his possession.

At Lal Chowk here, police intercepted two suspicious persons roaming in Sheik Bagh area and recovered 200 grams of cannabis-like substance from them. Identified as Asif Mehdi, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Malik, and Faisal Haroon, son of Irfan Haroon, both residents of Rakh Arth Bemina, both accused were arrested.

Cases under relevant sections of law has been registered at respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
