Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday visited the residence of Dr Shahnawaz Dar, who was killed in a terror attack in Ganderbal on Sunday.
Abdullah visited Dar’s residence in Nayidgam village in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
The chief minister met the slain doctor’s family and expressed his condolences and sympathies with the family.
Abdullah was accompanied by his advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Chadoora Ali Mohammad Dar, MLA Beerwah Shafi Ahmad Wani, MLA Khansahib Saifuddin Bhat, Deputy Commissioner Budgam and other officials, an official press release informed.
The doctor and six labourers were gunned down by terrorists at a tunnel-construction site on the Srinagar-Leh National Highway on Sunday evening.
Dr Shahnawaz Dar was posted at the tunnel construction site by APCO Infratech, an infrastructure company he was working for.
During his visit, Chief Minister conveyed his deepest sorrow over the untimely demise of Dr. Shahnawaz, acknowledging the profound loss suffered by the family, assuring them that the government stands firmly by their side during this difficult time, promising all possible assistance.
“The void caused by the death of Dr. Sahab cannot be filled, but we will do everything in our power to support you,” the Chief Minister said while consoling the grieving family.
“We are here to let you know that you are not alone in this moment of grief.”
In a significant gesture, Omar Abdullah directed the Deputy Commissioner Budgam to immediately initiate the process of providing a government job to a family member under SRO-43, as well as relief and rehabilitation under other relevant schemes.
He further announced that the government would bear all expenses related to the civil services education and training of Dr. Shahnawaz’s son, pledging to fulfil his father’s dream of seeing him become an officer.
“Whatever the costs, for training, coaching, or anything else, will be borne by us,” Abdullah stated. “We will make him an officer at any cost,” he added, reaffirming his government’s commitment to the family’s future.
Meanwhile, Minister of Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, School and Higher Education departments, Sakeena Masood Itoo today visited Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, to take stock of well-being of injured persons of recent Gagangeer attack.
During the visit, the minister was briefed by a team of senior doctors about conditions and health status of injured persons as well as the medical procedures being followed for their effective treatment, an official press release informed.
It said Itoo also interacted with injured persons and assured them of all possible support.
Interacting with doctors and paramedics on the occasion, the minister asked them to ensure best medical treatment for the injured for their prompt recovery.
She also asked the hospital administration to ensure that all necessary medical resources are made accessible at the hospital for better treatment of patients and in case seek opinions from other hospitals for their effective treatment.
On the sidelines of the visit, the minister also inspected the Critical Care unit and Emergency wards of the SKIMS.
During the inspection, she emphasized on the importance of maintaining quality patient care and effective emergency response systems at the hospital, highlighting that being one of the premiere health facilities of Kashmir, people have a lot of hopes from it.
She also engaged with patients and attendants, assuring them best possible medical treatment at the hospital.
