‘Bayaz-e-Kurhami Rasul’ is a scholarly collection of Sufi poetry by Kurhami Rasul, a Sufi author from the Kashmir Valley. The book poetically interprets the ethos of Sufism and faith. This 246-page book, printed on fine paper, explores themes like devotion, divinity, and longing, and serves as a spiritual guide for anyone who yearns to understand things that lie beyond reason and question.

The major themes of the book linger between love and separation. Lines like “Soate Naar Zaejthas Latte Lottai, Goam Kotyay Su Madanvar” (You slowly burned me with the gentle flames of love — where has my beloved gone now?) talk about the pain in the heart that arises from the beloved’s separation. The question asked in the couplet demonstrates a powerful reason to reconcile with the beloved, against everything it takes.

“Yaad Kar Katti Aakh Chukh Csa Kya, La Trav Sarre Kar Illallah” guides a reader to give up playing to worldly whims and acquire the soul’s truth. This spiritual wisdom takes a lifetime to achieve, and there is beauty in the manner the author has put forward this notion.

Kurhami Rasul’s verses are brimming with love for Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). In verses like “Soaz Choanai Chum Mae Jaerri, Karam Yaerri Ya Rasool” (The flame of your love burns within me endlessly—bless me and show me mercy, O Messenger of Allah), the author understands very well the relationship between a seeker and the Prophet.

The poems like “Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Rahmaan” and “Su Madanvaar” implore the themes of ultimate mercy and one’s yearning to merge with the divine. Similarly, poems like “Maayi Lolo” and “Dilbaro” carry a different kind of intimacy, a desire for life’s central motif.

The author has dedicated this soulful collection to his guide, Lal Saeb Argami, a revered figure in Kashmir’s mysticism. In 1974, the author had a fateful encounter with Lal Saeb that triggered the beginning of a new dawn in his life. Apart from Lal Saeb’s influence, his work embodies the cultural and regional fuses as well.
