Srinagar: Police have arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and recovered a psychotropic substance from his possession, a police spokesperson informed Wednesday.

He said at a checkpoint at village Badran, police recovered 30 bottles of codeine phosphate syrup from the possession of one Irfan Ahmed Lone, alias Raja, son of Ghulam Mohammad Lone of Badran Magam, and arrested him on the spot. During further investigation, another 35 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered during raids, police said, adding a case has been registered for investigation.

In Kupwara, police recovered 10 grams of a heroin-like substance from the possession of a 16-year-old boy (name withheld) at Geerhachi. The minor was subsequently sent to a Juvenile home in Harwan, Srinagar while a case has been registered in Police Station Kupwara for further investigation, police said.
