Asks EAM, GOI to reach out to panic stricken students in Kyrgyzstan

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Friday asked the GOI to actively engage with the universities and senior government functionaries in Kyrgyzstan to address the concerns of the Indian students especially students from J&K studying there.

Expressing concern over the escalation of incidents of violence against foreign students in Kyrgyzstan, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, “Kashmiri students studying are panic-stricken and are keeping indoors following the increased incidents of violence. Certain hostels housing students from medical universities in Bishkek, as well as private residences accommodating international students, have been subjected to such attacks. Many students have been allegedly killed and many others severely injured. Parents and Kin of students studying in Kyrgyzstan are very worried and are expressing their concerns about the return of their children.

Calling for Swift to reach out to the Indian students studying in the central Asian country, Imran requested the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to actively engage with the universities and senior government functionaries in Kyrgyzstan to address the concerns of the Indian students. “Embassy officials should visit the universities and colleges there to take stock of the situation. Helpline numbers should be made functional 24×7 where students can continue to reach out to the Embassy for all kinds of assistance,” he said.

He further asked the GOI to air connectivity between Bishkek and Delhi operational to repatriate the Indian students in case the situation escalates.
