Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Monday voiced concern over alleged efforts of the BJP to pit people against each other to achieve its own end.

Speaking at a public rally in KD Pora in Wachi (Zainpora) and Yaripora Kulgam Omar said, “Statements are being made to make people fight against each other. Attempts are being made to create tension between different religions.”

Challenging the BJP to provide evidence of any Muslim demanding privileges beyond their rightful share, he said, “We never asked for more than what we’re entitled to, never. Show me one Muslim, who has demanded anything more than what he is entitled to. The motive of such speeches is to create tension and conflict between religions. What will be the concern of the 80% Hindu population from the 14% Muslim population? Muslims have never asked for more than their right. Show us one Muslim in the country who has asked for more than his right or who has been given more than his right. It is a pity that Muslims are not even getting their right at this time, the ruling party is not getting a single Muslim to send to the Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha, and 14% of the population has not been given a single ministry in the central government.”

He said that the National Conference is fighting against the same injustice and the same sectarian forces and those who are in the field against us are directly helping the BJP and asking the people to think and vote their votes in the current elections.

Omar Abdullah was addressing back-to-back election rallies in the Zainapura constituency and Kulgam constituency in connection with the election campaign in favour of party candidate Mian Altaf Ahmed from the Anantnag Rajouri seat.

The programs were conducted by In-charge Conscientious Officers Shaukat Hussain Ganai and Imran Nabi Dar. Party candidate Mian Altaf Ahmed also addressed the gathering.

Targeting PDP and Mehbooba Mufti, the NC Vice President said that it is easy to blame. “Tell us about your governance, what did the people here have to see during your rule, when you have people? When there was an opportunity to interpret, she got never tired of praising Modiji. You used to say in your speeches that only one person in the world can solve the problem of Kashmir and Kashmiris and that is Modiji, did Modiji solve the problem here? You have brought nothing but destruction and destruction to Kashmir. You have opened the door for the BJP to destroy our identity, our existence, our individuality. They had an opportunity to represent the people here, but instead of describing the suffering, pain and feelings of the people here, she insulted people,” he said.

Omar Abdullah said that today we are asked what Article 370 has given to the people, we say that if nothing has been given, at least the Lion of Kashmir, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, has given ownership rights to the lands to the people here through this Article. This could not happen anywhere in the country, today the same lands are threatened. We are not against highways and railways, but is it necessary to build railways and highways from the lands from which our livelihood runs, from the lands with which our future is connected?

Senior party leader Sakina Itoo, Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, Senior leaders Advocate Abdul Majeed Larmi, Sheikh Mohammad Rafi, Additional State Spokesperson Sara Hayat Shah, and DDC members were present on the occasion.
