Srinagar: Police have arrested six drug peddlers in Awantipora, Baramulla and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesperson informed Monday.

He said in Awantipora, near Toll Plaza police intercepted an auto-rickshaw (JK01L-6792) and recovered 20 grams of cannabis-like substance from the possession of Waseem Ahmad Makroo, son of Abdul Rashid Makroo of Bemina Srinagar, who was driving it.

Near Kaigam crossing another auto-rickshaw (JK01AL-1324) driven by Aadil Ahmad, son of Mohammad Rafiq Shiekh of Natipora Srinagar, yielded 36 grams of cannabis-like substance.

In Uri Baramulla, at a checkpoint established at Choolan two persons — Shabir Ahmad Najar, son of Imam Din Najar, and Naseem Ahmad Khan, son of Nawab Khan, both residents of Gingle Uri, were arrested after 3.8 kgs of cannabis powder and 20 grams of cannabis-like substances was recovered from them.

In Kulgam, during checking at Kounserbal Crossing, police arrested Mukhtar Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Khaliq Malik of Nagam after 800 grams of cannabis powder and 130 grams of cannabis-like substance filled in polythene bags were recovered from his possession.

At a checkpoint at Alamgunj crossing, one Aakash Bashir, son of Bashir Ahmad Mochi of Munnad, was arrested after 500 grams of cannabis powder-like substance filled in a nylon bag was recovered from his possession.

Cases against all these accused drug peddlers have been registered in respective police stations for further investigation, police said.
