“The party is likely to make an announcement in this regard tomorrow,” they said.

Omar, who served as CM of Jammu & Kashmir from 2019 to 2014, would be locked in a direct contest with Apni Party’s Muhammad Ashraf Mir and PDP’s Waheed-Ur-Rehman Parra.

In the last assembly election, Omar won Beerwah assembly segment by a margin of around 1000 votes but lost Sonawar seat to Muhammad Ashraf Mir of PDP, who is now associated with Apni Party.

Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, a former minister, lost the 2014 Assembly election to Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone by a margin of 5423 votes. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, National Conference was trailing by a margin of more than 8000 votes against Peoples Conference in Choudhary’s native assembly segment of Handwara.
