New Delhi: All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary & Former J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Friday said that apart from Lok Sabha elections, simultaneous Assembly elections are crucial to restoring democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is paramount to ensure that democratic rights in the UT are restored, for that matter Election Commission of India (ECI) should announce dates for simultaneous assembly elections,” he said.
AICC General Secretary said that conducting simultaneous assembly elections in J&K is paramount, and crucial to restoring democracy and democratic rights of people in the UT, for that EC must announce dates for both Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections. J&K has not witnessed Elections for the last ten years, so it is high time when the simultaneous Assembly Polls should be conducted in the UT.
“People of J&K have no expectations from the BJP Govt, which is fully responsible for assaulting the democracy and democratic rights of the people.” “The much-awaited Assembly polls must be announced forthwith,” Mir added and reiterated that the EC should announce dates for simultaneous Assembly elections ensuring that democracy is restored in the UT.
