Urges public to avoid non-essential travel

Srinagar: The Srinagar administration on Friday issued an advisory asking residents to avoid non-essential movement in view of the prevailing inclement weather and adverse forecast.

According to the advisory issued by the Office of the District Magistrate Srinagar, intermittent light to moderate rainfall, snowfall over higher reaches, thunderstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected to continue across the district till the evening of April 4.

The administration has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel unless absolutely essential, warning that the weather conditions may pose risks on roads and in vulnerable areas.

A specific warning has also been issued to tourists, shikara operators, sand miners and others operating in and around water bodies, including Dal Lake and the Jhelum River.

They have been directed not to undertake any activity or attempt to cross water bodies without first assessing the prevailing conditions and safety status.

In case of any emergency, the administration has asked residents to contact the District Emergency Operation Centre or the Police Control Room Srinagar.

The administration urged citizens to remain alert and cooperate with authorities to ensure public safety during the adverse weather conditions.
