Sonamarg all set to host two-day New Year festival

GANDERBAL: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir, today convened a meeting of officers and stakeholders to review the arrangements for organizing the mega New Year festival at Sonamarg.

At the outset, the CEO of Sonamarg Development Authority briefed the DC about the arrangements to be put in place for organizing the two-day New Year Festival at Sonamarg.

In the meeting, it was revealed that the festival shall start on 31st December during which several activities including winter sports and cultural activities will be held on both days.

The DC sought the details regarding the arrangements to be put in place including identification and beautification of the venue, accommodation, water and power supply, cultural activities, health facilities, heating arrangements, transport, parking, operationalization of Z-Morh Tunnel and other related facilities to be put in place for the successful conduct of the festival.

While finalizing the arrangements, the DC maintained that we are expecting a huge rush of tourists including locals on the new year and said that Collaborative efforts and coordination of all stakeholders are necessary to provide seamless facilities to the tourists who are coming to attend the event.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, CEO, SDA; Joint Director Tourism, Executive Engineers of various wings, representative of Hotelier Association Sonamarg, various Officers/Officials of District Administration and other stakeholders.
