Srinagar: Police in Shopian together with the Revenue Department have initiated proclamation proceedings under Section 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) against two active terrorists, police spokesperson informed Saturday.

He identified the terrorists as Bilal Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Cheki Cholen, and Abid Ramzan Sheikh, son of Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh of Chotipora Shopian who he said are allegedly involved in many acts of terrorism.

Sharing details in this regard with the media, SSP Shopian, Tanushree said that the police is committed to upholding the law and ensuring the safety and security of the general public. “We are working closely with other agencies to follow due process and bring such elements to justice,” she said.

She said the proceedings have been initiated against the above “active terrorists” who are evading arrest as an open non-bailable warrant dated 06/09/2023 could not get executed against them.

Accordingly, a proclamation notice under section 82 of CrPC issued by the NIA court has been pasted/circulated at their residences and other prominent places in their respective native villages along with revenue officials with the directions that said wanted terrorists shall surrender before investigation officer or court of law, otherwise, further proceedings will be initiated accordingly against them, police spokesperson informed.

It said police also used drum beating to inform the general public about the ongoing efforts to apprehend the said active terrorists who are required in connection with an investigation of many terror-related cases.

Police said the proclamation proceedings and property attachment are part of a comprehensive effort to address terrorism and maintain the rule of law.
