3 drug peddlers arrested

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, police spokesman informed Friday.

He said in Kulgam, at a checkpoint near Tengbal Crossing, police intercepted a car (PB08BT-5230) with two persons on board. During search, 10 kgs of poppy straw like contraband substance was recovered from it following which Surjit Singh, son of Dula Singh, resident of Raipur Gujjra Bitlan, Jalandhar, Punjab and Abid Ahmad Ganie, son of Abdul Aziz Ganie, resident of Frisal, travelling in the said car were arrested and the vehicle seized.

In Handwara, at a checkpoint at Qalamabad market, 200 grams of cannabis-like substance concealed within maize covers was recovered from the possession of Nadeem Ahmed Mir, son of Ghulam Rasool Mir of Chanjmola Zachaldara Handwara. He has been arrested and a case registered, police said.
