6 burglars arrested in Shopian, stolen property recovered

Srinagar: Police in Shopian have busted a gang of burglars by arresting six accused involved in four burglary cases. Stolen property worth lakhs of rupees has also been recovered from their possession, a police spokesman informed Monday.

He said investigating some recent cases of burglary, police with the help of technical and human resources zeroed in on a suspect Waseem Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Aziz Wani of Ganowpora.

In order to evade arrest, Wani had left his home and was changing his location frequently. However, acting on a specific input, police arrested him and during questioning he confessed his involvement in burglary.

He also revealed the names of his accomplices — Nazir Ahmad Malik, son of Abdul Rasheed Malik of Thairna Keller; Ishfaq Majeed Wani alis Isha Dabba, son of Abdul Majeed Wani of Mughalpora Pulwama; Jamsheed Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Sikander Dar of Keegam;  Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Rasool Sheikh of Argi Check Rajpora Pulwama, and Riyaz Ahmed Wani alias Raja, son of late Mohammad Akbar Wani of Loswani Pulwama.

All the accused were arrested and property worth Rs eight lakhs approximately including gold jewellery, copper utensils, tiller, motorcycle, spray motor, geyser and batteries were recovered from their possession, police said.
