Srinagar: Promising some warmth to the Valley people following incessant rains and low temperatures, the weatherman here has predicted a further increase in the temperature across Jammu & Kashmir, saying that the Union Territory would witness warmer days ahead.

Director of Meteorological Department (MeT), Sonum Lotus told the news agency KNO that the weather would remain mainly dry from June 09-June 12 across J&K.

However, he said that a brief spell of showers, thunderstorms mainly towards evening during the next four days cannot be ruled out.

“The possibility of a thunderstorm in the evening is less with just 10-20 per cent chances,” he said.

Lotus further added that there is no forecast of any major rainfall till June 12 in Jammu & Kashmir.

Nonetheless, he said that J&K would witness a gradual increase in the maximum temperature as there is a possibility of warmer days ahead.

In Srinagar, the maximum temperature has settled at 28 degree Celsius while in Qazigund, a maximum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius was recorded today.

In Pahalgam, the mercury settled at 24.5 degree Celsius while Kupwara, Kokernag, and Gulmarg recorded 26.6 degrees Celsius, 26.2 degree Celsius and 18.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Pertinently, the weather remained erratic across Jammu & Kashmir since mid-May as the rains lashed the Union Territory most of the days, especially in the late afternoon, bringing the mercury down for almost 15 days.

The weather conditions, however, improved from June 05 following which the maximum temperature increased and brought relief to the people from the inclement weather conditions, which also caused huge losses to the farmers.
