5 arrested for burglary in Shopian; stolen property recovered

Srinagar: Police in Shopian have solved a burglary case by arresting five persons involved in it and recovered stolen property worth lakhs from their possession, officials informed Thursday.

They said acting on a complaint about the theft of 11 sheep during the intervening night of 15-16 May, police after registering a case, rounded up five suspects — Nisar Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Rasool Malla; Gulzar Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Qadoos Mir, both residents of Check Sangdan Imamsahib Shopian; Sheeraz Ahmad Hajam, son of Mohammad Abdullah Hajam of Watoo Kulgam; Sajid Gulzar Ganie, son of Gulzar Ahmad Ganie of Akalmir Khanyar Srinagar, and Irshad Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohammad Shafi Ganie, a resident of Rozbal Khanyar Srinagar.

During questioning, police also learnt of their involvement in several other burglary incidents at different locations in Anantnag, Awantipora, Kulgam and Pulwama areas.

On their disclosure, stolen property worth lakhs of rupees including two vehicles — Tata Mobile (JK18-0124) and Taveera (JK03C-1249) — and three sheep were recovered, police said, adding further investigation of the case is going on.
