Driver critically injured after alleged assault by shopkeeper in Sopore

Sopore: A driver sustained critical injuries following a physical altercation with a shopkeeper in Sopore Town on Wednesday.

Witnesses said that the shopkeeper, identified as Ghulam Ahmad Magaray, began verbally abusing Jalal Lone, the driver. When Lone attempted to defend himself, Magaray allegedly grabbed a plastic crate and physically assaulted him.

The injured driver was immediately taken to the Sub-district Hospital Sopore by the drivers’ association. Upon examination, doctors at the hospital found a scalp wound on Lone.

Meanwhile, the driver’s brother lodged a written complaint at Sopore Police Station, urging an investigation into the matter.

The complaint named Ghulam Ahmad Magaray as the accused shopkeeper.

Confirming the incident, SHO Sopore said that FIR has been registered in this regard and the accused has been arrested. “Further investigation has been taken up,” he added.
