Srinagar: Police have arrested seven drug-peddlers in Baramulla, Handwara, Kulgam and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession, officials informed Wednesday.

In Baramulla, at Hanjiwara Pattan, one Syed Ahmad Shah, son of Syed Mustafa Ahmad of Dewar Yakhmanpora Pattan, was arrested and 210 Spasmo Proxyvon capsules recovered from his possession.

In Kulgam, at Dalwach, one Ghulam Rasool Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat of Nussu Badragund, was held and 2.5 kgs of poppy straw-like substance recovered from his possession, police said.

On his disclosure, two more drug-peddlers identified as Bilal Ahmad Ganaie, son of Mohammad Jabbar Ganaie of Nussu Badragund, and Mohammad Ayub Malik, son of  Ghulam Mohd Malik of Brinal Lammar were arrested with 4 kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance.

At Dalwach crossing on NHW-44, one more drug peddler identified as Mudasir Ahmad Ganaie, son of Bashir Ahmad Ganaie of Hassanpora, Bijebhara was arrested alongwith 34 bottles of Codeine Phosphate.

In Handwara, at Sumo Stand Vilgam 30 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of one Basharat Ahmad Tantray, son of Bashir Ahmad, resident of Dahama.

In Anantnag, at Naina Bridge, police arrested one Waseem Farooq Koka, son of Farooq Ahmad Koka of Naina Batpora after brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his car (JK02CH-2777), which was also seized.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation initiated, police said.
