Addressing the participants, Dr Nisar said the University under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan is moving beyond regular sports activities to train students in specialised sports activities like Kayaking and Canoeing.

Urging students across campuses and affiliated colleges, especially girl students, to participate in sports activities with passion, Dr Nisar said a state-of-the-art athletic track and an indoor sports stadium are coming up in the University for the benefit of students. He said the University is also upgrading its cricket ground with added facilities.

Dr Mussavir Ahmad said the DPES is planning to hold a 21-day Kayaking and Canoeing Camp in May 2023 to give a fillip to water sports activities. He thanked Deputy Director Tourism (Recreation), Waseem Ahmad for allowing the use of Nigeen Water Sports Facility for the workshop and Kuldeep Handoo, Sports Officer, J&K Police for deputing the trainers.

International and national-level Kayaking and Canoeing players/coaches from J&K including Adil Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad, and Farooq Ahmad trained the students in the basics of Kayaking and Canoeing.

Coaches and officials of DPES were also present on the occasion.
