Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said it has arrested three drug-peddlers in Budgam and Handwara and recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession.

A police party intercepted a vehicle (TATA Sumo — JK01K-3772) driven by Shabir Ahmad Wani alias Shabir-Dalwash, son of Mohmmad Abdullah Wani of Dalwash, at a checkpoint Poshker Khag Chowk.

During the search, 60 grams of cannabis, one mobile phone and cash of ₹19,000 were recovered from his possession.

He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody while the vehicle has also been seized, police said.

Meanwhile a police party arrested a drug-peddler identified as Ghulam Ahmad Lone, son of Mohammad Yousuf Lone of Waragam Beerwah, at a checkpoint established at Qamiru Crossing and 2.1kgs of poppy straw has been recovered from his possession.

Similarly in Handwara, a drug-peddler identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir alias Inam, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir of Tarthpora, was arrested and 30 grams of cannabis recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations & investigations have been initiated, police said.
