4 drug-peddlers held

Srinagar:  Police on Tuesday said it has arrested four drug-peddlers in Baramulla, Kulgam, and Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Baramulla, a police party during patrolling at Laghama-Garkote crossing Uri intercepted a suspicious person and recovered 115 grams of charas-like (cannabis-like) substance from his possession. He has been identified as Asif Ahmad Junjwa, son of Mohammad Nazir Junjwa, resident of Machikrand Bandi Uri. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.

In Kulgam, a police party intercepted a person identified as Gowhar Ahmad Laway, son of Ghulam Mohammad Laway of Danipora, Gugerpora, at a checkpoint established near Court Complex DH Pora. During checking, 65 grams of charas and 1.7 Kgs of poppy straw-like substance concealed in two polythene bags were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to a police station where he remains in custody.

In Ganderbal, a police party intercepted a vehicle (JK16-2791) at a checkpoint established at Kijpora Kangan. During the search, charas-like substance was recovered from the possession of two people travelling in this vehicle. They have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Zargar, son of Noor Mohammad Zargar of Awantbhawan Soura, and Gayas ud-din Sheikh, son of Mohammad Maqbool Sheikh of Gagangeer Gund. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody.
