Secy H&ME reviews progress on implementation of Eat Right India Movement across J&K

JAMMU: Secretary Health and Medical Education (H&ME), Bhupinder Kumar, today chaired a meeting to review the progress on the implementation of Eat Right India Movement across J&K at the Civil Secretariat here.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration, J&K, Shakeel Ul Rehman; Principals of Government Medical Colleges, Director Health Services Jammu, Director Health Services Kashmir, senior officers of Higher Education and School Education Department and other concerned officials.

Speaking during the meeting, the Secretary underlined that Eat Right India Movement is one of the major initiatives towards the health and well-being of the society which will have transformational effects. He impressed upon the officers that the initiative needs to be implemented in its true spirit.

Highlighting for a vigorous awareness campaign for the movement, Bhupinder delved upon the officers that it is imperative for the successful implementation of the movement that all the stakeholders are well informed about the importance of this movement.

The Secretary further asked the concerned departments to work in coordination and synergy so that the movement is implemented successfully on the ground. He instructed the officers to hold a training session for Medical Superintendents of all Health institutions to ensure that all campuses are brought under the ambit of the movement.

The Secretary asked the concerned departments to nominate Nodal Officers from their respective departments besides necessary steps for registration, nomination, and certification of Health and Wellness Coordinators for conducting activities under Eat Right Matrix should be initiated. He emphasized that the success of the movement lies in collective action by all stakeholders including the government, food businesses, civil society organizations, experts and professionals, development agencies, and citizens at large to build a healthy society.

Explaining the importance of Eat Right India Movement, Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration, J&K said that this Movement with the theme “‘Sahi Bhojan – Behtar Jeevan’ “ is a large-scale effort to transform the country’s food ecosystem in order to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable food for all the people. He said that the initiative adopts a judicious mix of regulatory, capacity-building, collaborative and empowerment approaches to ensure that our food is good both for the people and the planet.
