Leopard spotted in Kalayban Narvaw, rescued after hectic efforts

Baramulla: A leopard was caught after hours of hectic operation by locals, police, and the wildlife department in Kalayban Sheeri village of Narvaw area after the wild animal mauled a local in the village creating panic.

Locals said that a leopard was spotted roaming in the residential locality of Kalayban village when locals tired.

In the melee, the leopard attacked Ilayas Ahmad who sustained injuries in his arms and was rushed to hospital,” locals said.

Later, the leopard took shelter in the cow shed and people crowded outside and remained busy taking pictures of the leopard.

As locals informed the police and wildlife department a police party, police station Sheeri led by SHO Waseem Jhangir and the wildlife team reached the spot.

“After strenuous efforts of police and Wildlife department, the leopard was finally captured after three hours of hectic operation,” said a wildlife official.

Locals of the area appreciated the wildlife department and J&K police for their immediate efforts to rescue the wild leopard.

A wildlife official said that the wildlife department with the assistance of J&K Police captured a leopard from Kalayban Narwaw village of Sheeri in Baramulla after receiving a call from the area.

He said that the leopard was roaming in the residential areas, posing a threat to the lives of people and their livestock. However, soon after the information was received, the leopard was captured alive after tranquilizing.

The official also said that the leopard will be taken to a safe location and will be set free.
