Gross misgovernance continues to plague Kashmir: Sakina Itoo

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference State Secretary and Former minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday said that “peace and prosperity continue to remain elusive” in Kashmir.

According to the NC spokesperson, continuing with her massive public contact programmes, she addressed a number of worker meetings in the DH Pora Assembly segment.

Addressing the workers she said, “Central government’s claim to give Kashmir a corruption-free administration and good governance was simply rhetoric. On the ground, nothing much is being done to root out such ills. The outsourced administration has become more unaccountable.”

The policies pursued by the airdropped administration in Kashmir, Sakina rued, were hardly encouraging. “From Job losses to misgovernance, Jammu & Kashmir’s problems have only increased. The plight of the Apple industry and widespread administrative inertia are emblematic of the downturn of governance in the region,” she stated.

She observed that there is a pressing need for a democratically elected government in J&K that would make the administration’s work more humane and more attuned to the political and developmental aspirations of people.

People are keen to find a way out from the indefinite problems, Sakina said adding, “No respite is coming from any government quarters. Incumbent administration has failed to bridge the widening gap between rich and poor.”
