Human trafficking gang busted in Budgam
3 persons arrested, 14 women victims rescued: Police
Srinagar: Police in Budgam claimed to have busted a human trafficking gang by arresting three accused and rescuing 14 women victims.
Acting on information about human trafficking, a police team raided a village Dulipora and rescued 14 women victims, including some minors, from the house of one Shamim Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rehman Bhat of Dulipora Parthan, and adjacent places, a police spokesperson said.
He said Bhat and the other two accused – Shagufta, wife of Bashir Ahmad Wani, and Asmat, wife of Shafiq Ahmad Wani, both residents of Dulipora Parthan, were arrested, and a case (FIR No. 370/2022) under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Budgam.
During preliminary investigation, police said it has been found that the arrested accused persons were involved in human trafficking by way of procuring the girls from different places and exploiting them in district Budgam and other parts of the valley. Further investigation into the case is going on and more arrests are expected.
Meanwhile, the rescued women victims have been shifted to Nari Niketan Rehabilitation Centre Chadoora, and process for their rehabilitation has been initiated, the spokesperson said.
