3 drug peddlers arrested, contraband recovered
Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and recovered contraband substances from their possession, police spokesman said Friday.
He said a police party during naka checking at Kawni crossing intercepted three suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended. During their search, 16.1 kgs of grinded cannabis powder concealed in three nylon bags was recovered from their possession.
Police identified the arrested persons as Riyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Ismail Bhat; Javaid Ahmad Bhat, son of Late Ghulam Nabi Bhat, both residents of Kawni Awantipora, and Javaid Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Abdullah Dar, resident of Dogripora Awantipora. They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody, police said.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.
