J&K logs 58 new Covid cases

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir registered 58 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the infection tally in the union territory to 4,78,415 with no fresh death due to the coronavirus, officials said.

While 51 cases were reported from Kashmir valley, seven were reported from Jammu division, they said.

Providing district-wise breakup for today’s positive cases, they informed that in Kashmir division, Srinagar reported 23 cases, Budgam nine cases, Kupwara reported six cases, Baramulla and Kulgam four cases each, , Pulwama and Shopian two cases each, while Bandipora reported one fresh case.

Similarly in Jammu division, Jammu district reported four cases, Doda two, and Samba one while no other district reported any fresh case today.

The death toll due to the virus was 4,783 as no fresh death was reported from the union territory, officials said. So far the disease has claimed 2,433 lives in Kashmir division while 2,350 persons have succumbed in Jammu division.

Currently there are 733 active cases of the disease in the union territory – 517 in Kashmir and 216 in Jammu division, while the cumulative number of recoveries has reached 4,72,899, the officials said.

The officials also said that 14,866 doses of COVID vaccine were administered in the last 24 hours across Jammu and Kashmir bringing the cumulative number of doses administered till date to 2,43,85,705.

At 4,417, India records lowest single-day rise in Covid cases in 3 months

India saw a single day rise of 4,417 new coronavirus infections, the lowest in the last three months, taking the tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,44,66,862, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Tuesday.

Active Covid cases have further declined to 52,336, while the death toll has climbed to 5,28,030 with 23 fatalities, including one death reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am showed.

India had reported 3,714 new cases in a span of 24 hours on June 6.

The active cases comprise 0.12 percent of the total infections while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.69 percent, the health ministry said.

A decline of 1,638 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.20 percent while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.06 percent, according to the health ministry.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,38,86,496, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the ministry, 213.72 crore doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The 22 new fatalities include four from Delhi, three from Maharashtra, and two each from Bihar, Haryana, Karnataka and West Bengal among others.
