Crimes go up in J&K in 2021, violent crimes decline marginally: NCRB report

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir has reported 3,072 violent crimes including 136 murder and 513 attempt to murder cases in 2021, NCRB data has revealed.

The report states that 3100 violent crime cases were reported in  2019, 2821 in 2020 and 3072 in 2021.

As per data the violent crime rate in J&K is 22.9 and charge sheeting rate is 67.2 percent.

The violent crime cases in J&K include 136 case of murder (U/S 302 IPC), 27 cases of culpable homicide not amounting to murder (U/S 304 IPC), four cases of infanticide, three cases of foeticide, 16 dowry deaths, 513 attempt to commit murder cases and 42 cases of grievous hurt incidents.

It said that the cases also include 1013 cases of murder, 315 cases of rape, 14 cases of attempt to rape, 751 cases of rioting, 104 cases of robbery, three cases of Dacoity and 131 cases of Arson.

The report added that 119 cases of murder were registered in J&K in year 2019, followed by 149 in 2020 and 136 in year 2021 and charge sheeting rate of murder cases in year 2021 is 79 percent.

As per data the motives behind murder includes personal vendetta or enmity in 13 cases, child/human sacrifice in one case, communal one case, political reasons in two cases, one honour killing, 10 cases of love affairs, three cases of illicit relationship, 30 cases of extremism/ insurgency, 15 cases of land/ property disputes, 18 cases of family dispute 4 cases of petty quarrel and 25 cases of blind murder where motive was unknown.
