Tribute football match in memory of late Irshad Ahmad Sofi played at B’pora

BANDIPORA: A tribute football match in the memory of late Irshad Ahmad Sofi popularly known as “Shadaa” was held at S. K Stadium, Bandipora.

The match was organised by Bandipora Football committee in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora and was played between SFA Bandipora and Downtown FC under floodlights to add sports fever and enthusiasm among players and spectators.

The S. K Stadium was jam-packed with spectators to boost the morale of players.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed said that Sports is necessary for distraction from drugs. He said the tribute match organised by the Bandipora Football committee in collaboration with District Administration is meant to raise the awareness regarding drug menace and the ill effects of drugs.

He said Bandipora is excelling in sports at all levels and urged the youth to come forward to showcase their talent in sports along with academics.

Dr Owais said sports are a positive reinforcement that can transform the lives of addicts by restoring healthy habits while doing away with drugs.

The DC appreciated the efforts of organisers and also congratulated people for showing sports spirit. He urged all the spectators and players to spread the message of Drug-free Bandipora and help youth in staying away from drugs.

The tribute match was also attended by Chairman MC Bandipora, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, and other officers from Civil Administration and police.

The match ended at 9:30 pm with SFA Bandipora registering a thumping win against Downtown FC by 3-1.
