Inter-school sports competitions gather pace across Baramulla

Baramulla: Sporting activities continued to gather momentum across Baramulla district as the Department of Youth Services and Sports organised a series of inter-school zonal competitions, cross-country runs and intramural events involving hundreds of students.

The Inter-School Zonal Level Competitions formally commenced in Zone Wagoora and Zone Tangmarg on Tuesday with enthusiastic participation from students of various schools.

In Zone Wagoora, an Under-14 girls’ badminton competition was held at Higher Secondary School Kreeri, where 42 students from government and private schools participated.

Meanwhile, Zone Tangmarg organised an Under-14 chess competition for boys and girls at Government High School Tangmarg. The event witnessed active participation and highlighted the strategic skills of the young participants.

To promote fitness and social awareness, Zone Dangerpora conducted a cross-country run under the banner of Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan. Hundreds of students participated in the event, which was aimed at encouraging physical fitness and raising awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse among youth.

At the same time, Zone Jhulla organised a series of intramural competitions in Kabaddi and Volleyball for Under-14 and Under-17 boys and girls. The events witnessed large participation and provided a platform for students to showcase their sporting talent at the grassroots level.

Officials said the activities are being conducted in accordance with the annual sports calendar issued by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, with the objective of promoting discipline, physical fitness and all-round development among students across the district.
