Police arrests 03 un-categorised terrorists in Handwara

Srinagar: Three “uncategorised terrorists” have been arrested by police in Handwara and incriminating materials including arms and ammunition have been recovered from their possession, a police spokesman said.

“Police along with Army (21RR) and CRPF (92Bn) at a checkpoint established at Fruit Mandi Crossing Handwara intercepted 03 persons who on seeing the checking party tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully,” the spokesman said.

He said the arrested persons were identified as Manzoor Ahmed Kumar son of Aziz Kumar resident of Sagipora and Showkat Ahmed Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmed resident of Khanu Babagund. However, the identification of the third arrested terrorist has been withheld as his age is being verified.

“On their personal search, incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 Pistol, 01 Pistol Magazine, 07 Pistol rounds and 2 grenades were recovered from their possession,” said the spokesman.

He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested trio was tasked to carry out terror attacks in Handwara and cause loss of life and injuries to the public and disrupt peace in the area. The timely and swift action by the joint team has prevented the terrorists from carrying out the mischievous activities.

“In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 213/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated,” said the spokesman.
