Says Mufti sisters should have 'forgiven’ perpetrators of kidnapping like Priyanka Gandhi did her father’s assassins

Srinagar: Taking a dig at the bureaucracy her for allegedly considering themselves “last authority on earth”, Peoples Conference (PC) chairman, Sajad Gani Lone Tuesday said since stakes have increased manifold in Jammu and Kashmir, bureaucrats would not allow Assembly elections to be conducted here.

Lone also said that banned JKLF chairman, Yasin Malik should be given a chance to put forth his perspective in former chief minister late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s daughter, Rubaiya Syeed’s kidnapping case.

He said that justice should not be one-sided and that the jailed separatist leader, who is already serving a term in jail as part of life sentence, also deserves fair trial.

In J&K, “we have an unelected administration and the bureaucrats consider themselves the last authority on the earth; think they are doing a good job’ which I don’t think they do.

“Since stakes have increased manifold, I don’t think these bureaucrats would allow Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. We can only raise our voice in this regard,” Lone said while talking to the media on the sidelines of a function organized to welcome former Deputy Director Health, Dr Bashir Chalkoo from Uri into the party fold.

He said they (the current administration) always take previous regimes head-on, alleging they were involved in scams and thefts but ignore that they themselves have started being exposed before the people here.

On the Rubaiya Sayeed kidnapping case, Lone said whatever happened was wrong and condemnable but there should be some other alternative in the spirit of reconciliation given the life sentence already awarded to Yasin Malik.

He said it was Mehbooba Mufti who always advocated reconciliation and dialogue with Pakistan and militant leadership in Kashmir.

He said “Mehbooba and her sister should have buried the past and forgiven the perpetrators like former prime inister Rajiv Gandhi’s daughter Prinyanka Gandhi forgave her father’s murderers.

“Normally I don’t comment on people’s personal matters. There might be disagreements between Yasin Malik and me, but he deserves a fair trial as one-sided justice is not done. If I was in place of Mehbooba Mufti, I would have adopted a different model like that of Priyanka Gandhi who forgave her father’s murderers. This was a kidnapping case, it was wrong and we condemn it, but there should be some other alternative in the spirit of reconciliation given that life sentence has already been awarded to Malik,” Lone said.

He also said that people of Kashmir should also realize whether any mainstream political party wants reconciliation in true manner, or that it is just confined to their statements.

Lone was speaking to media on the sidelines of a function wherein Dr. Bashir Ahmad Chalkoo, former Deputy Director Health from Uri along with his supporters joined the Peoples Conference.

A party spokesman said that on the occasion scores of activists of different political parties also joined PC.
