Amarnath Yatra: J&K ADGP-railways directs for contingency plan to repulse any militant act

Jammu: Emphasizing on foolproof security arrangements at railway stations during the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, Additional Director General of Police (Railways) Sunil Kumar on Wednesday called for chalking out a contingency plan “to repulse any terrorist act during the 43-day pilgrimage starting from June 30.”

Kumar was speaking at a meeting convened to review the security arrangements at railway stations and in the entire area of responsibility of the Government Railway Police (GRP) Jammu, a spokesperson of the force said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, GRP, Jammu, Mohammad Arif Rishu briefed the ADGP regarding the security preparedness in connection with the Yatra.

Kumar directed the officers to maintain heightened alertness round-the-clock to ensure peaceful travel of pilgrims on trains and their brief halts at various railway stations.

He emphasized on foolproof security arrangements at all the places, especially at Jammu railway station, and stressed for a contingency plan to repulse any terrorist act.

He asked the officers to deal with pilgrims and other passengers with humbleness and be available round-the-clock for any assistance to them.

Kumar, along with Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Northern Railways, A N Mishra, will be on a three-day visit to GRP units in Katra and Udhampur.

They will be visiting various sites, including Sumbar, Sangaldan and Chenab Dugga bridge to inspect the upcoming infrastructure for various Railway Protection Force and GRP posts along the under construction rail link from Katra to Banihal, the spokesperson said.
