Srinagar: Kashmir Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi on Friday directed the strengthening of security arrangements around vulnerable installations, including prominent tourist destinations, to ensure a safe and secure environment for visitors.

Birdi chaired a security review meeting at PCR Kashmir here to evaluate and finalise security arrangements for forthcoming events in the Kashmir valley, a police spokesperson said.

The meeting was attended by senior officers of police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Traffic Police, Railways, Security, and State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).

The meeting primarily focused on reviewing security arrangements in anticipation of forthcoming events, the spokesman said, without sharing further details.

Deliberations emphasised the need to further strengthen the existing security framework and optimise deployment of personnel at critical and sensitive locations, he said.

The IGP Kashmir directed officers to intensify surveillance on anti-national elements and to enhance area domination in their respective jurisdictions. He also emphasised strict surveillance along inter-district boundaries to prevent any suspicious movement.

Special directions were issued for effective traffic management in Srinagar city, with instructions to implement a comprehensive plan aimed at easing congestion, ensuring smooth vehicular movement, and minimising inconvenience to the public, the spokesperson said.

Birdi also reviewed preparedness for Hajj arrangements and directed officers to ensure adequate security, facilitation, and coordination at all designated points to guarantee the safe and orderly movement of pilgrims.

The IGP instructed district heads to maintain strict vigilance over social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation that could adversely impact public safety and order and called for intensified cordon and search operations, particularly in sensitive areas across the Valley and along national highways.
