Srinagar: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, including one from Pakistan, were among three killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Kupwara and Shopian districts of Kashmir on Tuesday, police said.

Based on information about the presence of militants in the Chaktaras Kandi area of Kupwara, security forces launched a cordon and search operation, a police official said.

The terrorists opened fire on the security personnel who retaliated, he said, adding two terrorists were killed in the ensuing encounter.

“Two terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT, including one Pakistani terrorist namely Tufail, killed. Search still going on,” Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar tweeted.

Meanwhile, another encounter took place in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, the police official said.

He said the gunfight took place in the orchards of the Badimarg-Aloora area of Shopian.

One terrorist of Hizbul Mujahideen been killed so far and the operation was going on, the official said.

“Killed #terrorist identified as Nadeem Ahmad Rather @ Kamran of #Kulgam, linked with proscribed terror outfit HM. He was involved in several #terror crimes including #killing of Kulpora Panch and #recruitment of youth into terror ranks,” IGP Kashmir tweeted.@JmuKmrPolice

Four arrested in connection with IED blast in Shopian: Police

Four persons have been arrested in connection with an improvised explosive device (IED) attack that took place in Shopian district of south Kashmir last week, in which an army soldier was killed, police said on Tuesday.

“#ShopianPolice cracked recent #terror attack case in which terrorists used IED in a vehicle at Shedow Shopian, in which one soldier was #martyred and others were injured. All 04 #terrorist/associates have been arrested. #Congratulations to team Shopian,” Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vijay Kumar wrote on Twitter.

On June 02, a soldier named Naik Praveen was killed while two others were injured when an explosion took place in a civil vehicle hired by the Army for a cordon and search operation in Patitohalan area of Shopian in south Kashmir.
