50 girl students participate in KU inter-college cycle race

Srinagar: The Directorate of Physical Education and Sports (DPES), University  of Kashmir, on Tuesday  organised an inter-college cycle race (women).

50 students from 11 affiliated colleges of the University participated in the race,  which started from Nishat Garden and culminated at KU’s Rumi Gate.

The race was flagged off by Registrar Dr Nisar Ahmad Mir in presence of Director DPES Prof Showket Ahmad Shah, and other officials of the Directorate.

In his interaction with the participating students, Dr Nisar said it’s an encouraging sign to see girl students joining athletic and adventure sports events. This, he said, motivates other girl students to participate in sports activities and send a message across society about the importance of extracurricular and sports activities for people’s healthy living.

He appreciated DPES Director and his team of officials for organising sports events regularly.

A prize-distribution ceremony was later held at DPES, where Director CCAS Prof Tabassum Firdous and Prof Showket felicitated the winners and encouraged the participants.

Prof Showkat thanked principals of all colleges, physical directors, staff of the Directorate, and other associated wings of the University, for their active support and cooperation in the conduct of sports events.

Mehak Mushtaq of GDC Pattan sealed the gold medal by clocking the time of 13:40, while  Lailat Ul Nisa and Basira Jan Makhdoomi secured Silver and Bronze medals respectively by clocking a time of 15:50 and 15:52. Sajid Yousuf conducted proceedings of the ceremony.
