Baramulla: An elderly man was killed and his brother injured in a scuffle over land dispute in Nambla Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.

Witnesses said that the two parties had assembled to sort out some land dispute, however, it happened that during the course of meeting the parties started exchanging heated arguments.

The argument only intensified with time, leading to a scuffle, a source said adding a few members from the other side attacked the opposite party with sharp-edged weapons which resulted in injuries to two brothers — Abdul Karim Bhat and Mohammad Sulaiman Bhat.

Both of them were evacuated to GMC Baramulla, where Abdul Karim, 85, succumbed to injuries, the source said.

A police official confirmed the death of an elderly man in the land dispute and said police have registered a case into the matter and investigations are going on.

“A case under FIR No 33/2022 under sections 307, 452 ,506,323 IPC has been registered in police station Uri and investigation is going on,” he said, adding, “Police have arrested the son of the accused as the main accused is at large.”
