Chief Editor, Srinagar News passes away

Srinagar, Feb 01: Senior Journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Srinagar News Mehraj-ud-Din Wani passed away here on Tuesday.

According to his family members, Wani was unwell and was recently admitted to CD hospital where he breathed his last.

The officers and officials of Directorate of Information & Public Relations besides several political leaders have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran and senior journalist, Mehrajud Din Wani (Chief Editor- Daily Srinagar News) who breathed his last today in the afternoon.

Director Information and Public Relations, Rahul Pandey condoled the demise of Editor-in-Chief of Srinagar News, Mehraj-ud-Din Wani.While chairing a condolence meeting Rahul Pandey highlighted the role of departed journalist in raising public issues through his journalistic work and called his demise a great loss to journalist fraternity as well as society.

The Director and the employees of DIPR also offered deep condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

In Srinagar, a condolence meeting was held under the chair of Inam Ul Haq Siddiqui, Joint Director Information Kashmir, an official press release informed.

It said they offered their condolences to the bereaved family, especially Mohammad Iqbal Wani and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.

Meanwhile, a group of officers and officials visited the residence of the deceased journalist and participated in his Nima–e-Jinazah.

Kashmir Images team also condoled Wani’s demise and expresses solidarity with the bereaved family.

Various political parties also condoled his demise.

National Conference (NC) president and MP from Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah and vice-president Omar Abdullah and other party functionaries expressed grief over his demise.

In their condolence message, the party prayed for peace to the deceased and much needed strength to the bereaved in their hour of grief.

Expressing shock and grief over the death of Wani, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami termed the demise as an irreparable loss.

Describing him as a veteran journalist, Tarigamiexpressed solidarity with the bereaved family and media fraternity.

Apni Party president Mohammad Altaf Bukhari described the deceased as a “thorough gentleman who was committed to his professional obligations”.

Bukhari said that late Wani was a senior journalist “who throughout his life tried his best to become a voice of the people while remaining committed to his principles of accountability.”
