Srinagar: A policeman was injured after militants fired at a police party in the Nawakadal area of the city on Sunday, officials said.

In a statement here, police spokesperson said based on specific inputs about the presence of militants in Jamalata area of Nawakadal, a raid was carried out by a small party of Srinagar Police there in the evening.

“As the team approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists started indiscriminate firing upon them, resulting in injuries to one police personnel, who was evacuated to nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries,” the police spokesperson said.

He said “keeping in view the safety of the civilians and evening rush in the area, the police team exercised maximum restraint.”

Later the reinforcements of CRPF and police laid “cordon of the suspected clusters of houses and started searches,” he said, adding that police have registered a case and started investigation into the matter.
