LSA to take law students for internships across India: Justice Magrey

Srinagar: In the valedictory function of the ‘Moot Court Competition-2021 (provincial-Kashmir), Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, Judge, High Court of J&K and Ladakh today remarked that the J&K Legal Services Authority (LSA) would give opportunity to law students of J&K to do their internships across the courts in India.

On the occasion, Justice Magrey, who is also Executive Chairman, J&K LSA and member NALSA also reiterated that the Authority will offer an opportunity to winners of the Moot Court to work along with the Judges of High Court of J&K and Ladakh. He maintained that these law schools are pivotal in chiseling the young talent to make quality lawyers out of them.

While pronouncing the objective of Moot Courts the Justice elaborated that it is a fine platform to make best out of our talent pool. He said that it imparts mooters the knowledge and conduct in courts of law and above all the strength of drafting, pleading, convincing and research skills among them.

Justice Magrey also upheld that the participation in competitions enhances the skill set of students. He said that it not only improves skills of discussion and debate but even of those around them.  He urged the students to choose this direction willfully with positive frame of mind.

Justice Magrey also said that today’s best mooters are tomorrow’s fine lawyers. He said that in order to be a quality lawyer one has to stick to honesty, integrity and good moral character with better communication skills and research ability. He impressed upon the students to describe yourselves among the society as per your faith and belief.

He encouraged the female law students to adopt this profession with full strength and will power. He made out that sky is the limit for them in this profession. He further asked them not to feel intimidated or discouraged but find inspiration from the best legal luminaries who were once standing on their pedestal. In the end Justice Magrey urged all the students to work hard and help in reforming the society from all social evils especially the drug menace.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Dean Academic Affairs, Prof Farooq Ahmad Masoodi; Registrar KU, Prof. Nisar Ahmad; Former Dean and HoD, Law, Prof Mohammad Ayoub. All of the speakers threw light on different aspects and significance of holding moot courts in academic institutions.

Prof Beauty Banday, Head School of Law, KU welcomed the guests earlier in the ceremony.

The participants in this valedictory function also included legal luminaries from Judiciary, Noor Mohammed Secretary DLSA Srinagar and Ms Fozia Paul Secretary DLSA Budgam, who were also organisers of this competition. Moreover, other persons from Academicia and students of law from various schools across Kashmir participated in this 3-day event began earlier on 8th of this month.

The School of Law, University of Kashmir was adjudged winner for this competition held over past three days from 8th of this month. Winners of the competition were given citations and mementos while participating teams from all law colleges were handed over certificates by the Chief Guest.
