IEDs defused in Baramulla, Poonch

Srinagar: A tragedy was averted as security forces detected and defused an improvised explosive device (IED) in Baramulla district of north Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

“Security forces detected an IED planted by terrorists from a passenger shed at a bus stop at Saidpora in Rafiabad area of Baramulla,” they said.

The officials said a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot which took the IED to an isolated place and safely defused it.

Meanwhile, Army troops recovered an IED and later defused it in Poonch district on Thursday, a defence spokesman said.

An army patrol party detected the IED fitted in the branch of a tree in the forest area of Sawalkot in Ratangir ridge, he said.

The IED was destroyed later, the spokesman added.

With the destruction of the IED, a potential tragedy was averted.
