Poonch: Police on Tuesday made appeals to people through public address systems in mosques in Bahatdhurian area of Poonch, urging them not to move towards jungle as well as keep the livestock inside their respective premises.

SDPO Z A Jafri told GNS that the announcements were made after some people were seen moving towards jungle along with livestock amid ongoing encounter in the area. “People can contact police any time and we are in the service of public 24×7. We will ensure home delivery of anything needed urgently.”

He responded in negative to the reports that the announcements were made as army was preparing a major offensive against the militants purportedly hiding in the jungle area. Already at least nine soldiers including three JCOs have been killed in the gunfight in the jungle area Bahatdhurian and its boundary along Rajouri in the last week or so. Also Army Chief General MM Naravane along with other officers visited the area earlier. (GNS)
