Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Friday recorded 671 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the cumulative number of infected persons to 3,10,688, while the death toll rose to 4,234 with eight more fatalities, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 445 were reported from the Kashmir division and 226 were from the Jammu division of the union territory, the officials said.

They said Srinagar district recorded the highest number of 133 cases, followed by Baramulla district with 66.

The number of active cases has dropped to 10,094 in the union territory, while cumulatively 2,96,360 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.

The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic rose to 4,234 as eight patients, four each from Kashmir and Jammu divisions, died in the past 24 hours.

Officials also said that 1171 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and have been discharged from various hospitals, including 623 from Kashmir and 548 from Jammu division, during past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the officials said, there were 22 confirmed cases of Mucormycosis or black fungus in the union territory as no fresh case was reported since Thursday evening.

So far 77.92 percent of population above the age of 45 years has been vaccinated across the Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

According to the daily media bulletin on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), so far 4,234 lives have been claimed by the virus — 2172 in Kashmir and 2062 in Jammu division.

The bulletin further said that out of 94,03,958 test results available, 90,93,270 samples have tested as negative till 18th June, 2021.

Till date 22,92,522 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 43,061 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by the government, 10,094 in isolation and 1,80,690 in home surveillance while 20,54,443 persons have completed their surveillance period, the bulletin informed.
