Hailstorm hits Handwara villages

Pattan: The hailstorm coupled with gusty winds and heavy rainfall damaged apple orchards and fruit crops in several areas of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday.

The Apple orchards and fruit crops were affected in Goushbugh, Aglar, lolipora, Magraypora and Sultanpora areas of Pattan.

Reports reaching the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that the hailstorm and heavy rains that continued for a couple of minutes caused heavy losses to the apple crop and other fruit crops, thereby putting farmers in distress.

Meanwhile, the apple growers and farmers here have appealed to the administration to provide them compensation. (KNO)
