Jammu: Expressing gratitude to the people and party workers for the ‘tremendous response’ to the 45 days agitational programme against ‘tax terrorism of BJP Govt’, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee President G.A. Mir has said that Congress party would soon launch another phase of the agitational programme to expose the failures of the BJP led Centre Govt. and the UT administration on various fronts, compounding the problems of people.

In a statement issued today, Mir thanked the people especially party workers for the tremendous response to the 45 days-long series of protests throughout Jammu and Kashmir against the unprecedented price hike of petrol, diesel, gas and all other commodities including a 19%  hike in fare & freight charges, besides record unemployment.

He said that there are a host of issues confronting the people and the Congress party as a principal opposition party in the country and J&K, is raising the voice of each and every section of the society.

He said that the Modi Government is fleecing the people through multiple taxes and increase in taxes while the resources of J&K are being sold to outside people depriving the local population of the opportunities to earn their livelihood. Even sand and Bajri which used to be taken out by locals from Nallas & rivers & sold at cheaper rates have been allotted to outside people who are selling the same at exorbitant rates.

JKPCC Chief strongly condemned the series of terrorist strike resulting in innocent killings, especially political workers and questioned the claim of Modi government that militancy would die down post disbanding of state to UT.

Mir said that around 50,000 people directly participated in over 100 protests in 45 days in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, while hundreds of  Congress workers were arrested and detained by the police in different places.
