Ensure prompt civic services delivery; timely redressal of grievances: Khan to Officers

BARAMULLA: Affirming government’s commitment towards strengthening transparency and accountability in governance mechanism, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today emphasized ensuring prompt delivery of civic services besides timely redressal of public grievances.

Advisor made these remarks during a meeting chaired by him to take stock of post snowfall scenario besides getting first hand appraisal of various developmental projects being executed in the district.

While taking a thorough review of various essential services like power supply, drinking water availability, snow clearance etc, Advisor observed that all those matters having vital public significance should be given due consideration adding that available resources shall be mobilized effectively for greater public convenience. He directed the concerned authorities of Power Development Department to provide uninterrupted power supply during the schedule hours and strictly abide by the curtailment timetable.

Taking an appraisal of COVID-19 vaccination programme, Advisor directed the concerned authorities to disseminate awareness among the people so that different misconceptions and apprehensions regarding the vaccine are eliminated.

Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner Dr G N Itoo presented progress achieved in different sectors through power point presentation. He said that all the essential services that had been disrupted due to snowfall have been restored through implementation of an effective response mechanism.

Later, several delegations called on the Advisor and apprised him of their demands and grievances pertaining to development works in their respective areas.

A delegation of All Tribals Coordination Committee demanded effective implementation of Forest Rights Act in all the eligible areas. They demanded that the date for claiming the forest rights under the Act should be extended owing to adverse weather conditions in such areas. Other demands raised by the delegation included inclusion of a member from ST community in Forest Rights Committees, dissemination of awareness in vernacular language about FRA at grass root level.

Meanwhile, Sopore Coordination Committee, Traders Federation Baramulla and a delegation from Rafiabad area also called on the Advisor and highlighted their grievances and demands.

Advisor assured that all the problems and demands raised by the delegations shall be redressed in a time bound.

Director, Rural Development Department, Chief Engineer KPDCL, SDMs, heads of various departments, Engineers of line departments, district officers among other concerned functionaries were present on the occasion.
