Srinagar: Continuing its drive against the drug dealings, Police in a series of actions have arrested six drug peddlers from Awantipora, Budgam, Baramulla and Ganderbal, a police spokesman said.

He said that huge quantity of psychotropic substance and contraband substances were recovered from their possession besides, cash amount of Rs. 2.40 lacs.

In Awantipora, Police at a checkpoint established at Gunchocha Crossing Tral intercepted a vehicle Grand i-10 bearing registration No. JK03H-6312 driven by one Owais Ashraf resident of Tral Payeen, said the spokesman, adding, during checking 06 bottles of Codeine phosphate and 270 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon were recovered from his possession.

In a separate operation, police recovered 3Kgs of grinded Cannabis and 300 grams of Charas like substance from a person identified as Shabir Ahmad Ganie resident of Lurgam Tral.

“Both the drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to PS Tral where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 02/2021 and 03/2021 under the relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Tral and further investigation initiated,” said the spokesman.

Meanwhile at Mohanpora Ompora check point, police intercepted a vehicle Maruti-800 bearing registration No. JK04B-4162 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Umer Gaffar Lone resident of Humhama and Aqib Wani resident of Mohanpora Ompora. During checking 24 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 150 Spasmoproxyvon plus Capsules and 99 tablets of Alprazolam were recovered from their possession.  They have been arrested and booked vide FIR No. 06/2021 under relevant sections of law.

In Baramulla, police at a checkpoint established near Petrol Pump Khawajabagh intercepted one person identified as Amjid Hussain resident of Delina Baramulla. During checking police recovered 91 bottles of Codine Phosphate from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Baramulla where he remains in custody vide FIR No. 03/2021, said the spokesman.

One Gulzar Mohammad Saeed resident of Narayanbagh Shadipora was intercepted by police at a checkpoint established at Peerpora Ganderbal and 900 grams of bhang powder like substance wrapped in polythene was from his possession. Besides, police also recovered cash amount of Rs. 2.40 lacs from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Ganderbal where he remains in custody.

“In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been initiated,” said the spokesman.
