Srinagar, Dec 09: Winter Games Association of J&K (WGAJK) has expressed its happiness over inception of snow skiing early this winter as enough snow was available at Gulmarg for the beginners; besides the drag ski lifts too are operating.
WGAJK appreciated the Secretary Tourism Sarmad Hafiz and Director Tourism Nisar Ahmad Wani for preponing winter sports this year and requested them to put other necessary infrastructure in order. “There is a need to get the Snow Groomer repaired immediately as the Kongdori slopes will remain unpacked.”
Abass Wani informed that the WGAJK plans to hold a number major and domestic winter sports events such as 2nd Khelo India Winter Games, junior national ski & snowboard championship, state and district championships.
He further said that the Ice Skating rink needs some minor repairs, which should be done forthwith. Wani conveyed his gratitude to JK Sports Council for helping WGAJK to arrange funds for purchasing ski equipment in the Sports Ministry
General Secretary WGAJK, Muhammad Yusuf, said that WGAJK is going to hold 3 nation Himalayan countries ski race in collaboration with Union Sports Ministry. “Nearly 2500 players including boys and girls from all over country will take part in different national level events,” he said.
